About

Ella, April 2011.
One of my favorite photos of her, after she started to make eye contact again.

Hello and Welcome!
My name is Debbie Norman.
I have three children – Will (age 10), Emma (age 9), and Ella (age 3). Ella has autism.

EnduringTheSilence.com is a blog about autism.

How this blog got it’s name:

From Merriam-Webster:

definition of “endure”:

- to undergo (as a hardship) especially without giving in.

- to regard with acceptance or tolerance.

- to remain firm under suffering or misfortune without yielding.

That is what I am doing.  I am enduring the silence.  I love my daughter.  I accept my daughter. But I am not giving in to the idea that she will never speak to me regularly again. I remain hopeful, in all things.

The posts on this blog will be anything related to autism that I feel like writing about, as we go along this journey.  I welcome your comments and thoughts on posts.

Thank you for joining me.
